Three outstanding Team Read coaches have recently been selected for exciting leadership positions in their communities.

Tea Fortune

Tea Fortune will participate in Citizen University’s Youth Collaboratory Program, where she will sharpen her literacy in civic power while traveling to cities around the nation and meeting with national civic innovators. “I want everyone to pay attention to what’s going on in the world, and in their community, and just not just what’s going on down the street,” she says. “I also want to learn about different points of view and hear what others they have to say, so that I can learn from them.”

Dylan Blanford

Dylan Blanford and Arianna Rosario are serving on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board. They will provide a student voice, advocate for student interests, and provide valuable feedback to the superintendent and school district. “I am excited about working with students who come from different backgrounds and working with my peers on policy change and reform,” says Arianna. She’s particularly interested in:

  • Challenging social norms, and emphasizing students academic success and student activism.
  • Restructuring funding to close the equity gap.
  • Supporting Ethnic studies and ending sexism in schools.

Dylan is also looking forward to collaborating with others and hopes to be a positive representative for students at Garfield, “especially the ones who aren’t typically given a voice, to ensure they are heard.”

We’re so proud of our reading coaches and look forward to hearing about what they learn from these amazing experiences!
