Team Read is currently accepting applications for the Summer Reading Program Coordinator position. This is a 20 hour a week, paid, hourly, year-round position.

Team Read is a non-profit organization that partners with school districts and library systems to provide an innovative after-school and summer reading tutoring program that pairs older students as reading coaches (tutors, role models and mentors) with 2nd-3rd grade students for one-to-one tutoring. Program evaluation results demonstrate that the elementary students become better readers, and benefit from their relationships with positive role models and mentors. The teen reading coaches gain meaningful work and community service experience.

Team Read’s summer program has been growing and evolving since 2012. We anticipate that with this hire we will see the substantial growth of the program’s planning, organization, curriculum and impact. The summer program involves working with Seattle and Highline Team Read program staff to develop and coordinate the program as well as working closely with Seattle Public Schools (SPS) and Highline Public Schools (HPS) staff and Seattle Public Library and King County Public Library System staff. The summer program takes place at both school and library locations and we anticipate serving 150 2nd and 3rd graders at library locations with two reading tutoring sessions a week as part of a coordinated approach to prevent summer reading loss and improve reading skills. Additionally, this position will coordinate the training, placement, and placement follow up of 50+ reading coaches in the Seattle Public Schools Summer Staircase program.

General Summary: The Summer Reading Program Coordinator will, under general direction from the Director of Organizational Expansion, and in close coordination with the Program Managers in Seattle and Highline, help develop, plan, prepare for, coordinate and manage the Team Read Summer Program with tutoring sessions at 5 library locations and at 15-20 elementary school locations (coordinating with the Seattle Public Schools Summer Staircase program).

The Summer Reading Program Coordinator will:
• With the support of the Seattle and Highline Team Read Program Managers, coordinate the partnership with Seattle Public Library, and King County Public Library System (developing the memos of understanding, identifying branch locations, provide materials and information to branch staff, meet with branch staff to introduce the program, visit library sites on a rotating basis during the program).
• Work with elementary school staff at Team Read partner elementary schools to provide outreach to the parents of Team Read elementary students related to participation of their children in the summer program, and provide availability of parent resources to support summer reading and strategies related to reading.
• Coordinate and plan with SPS Summer Staircase program staff.
• Help prepare program materials and books and deliver materials and books to the school locations.
• Coordinate outreach to teen reading coaches and their parents regarding summer program participation and reading coach placement.
• Coordinate the reading coach orientation and training sessions.
• Provide on-going coaching and support to coaches at the Summer Staircase school locations alternating between locations.
• Maintain accurate records of coach participation and attendance, coordinate coach pay and related paperwork.
• Supervise the coaches in maintaining accurate student records (attendance, books read, vocabulary learned, and other areas as determined by Team Read staff).
• Help coordinate a celebration activity at the end of the summer programs at all library locations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 3 years of successful experience with program development, coordination and management
• BA degree in education or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of youth development and youth program quality concepts.
• Ability to communicate clearly with Team Read program staff, students, families and partner organizations.
• Ability to provide excellent follow-up as part of managing and supporting the coaches and the tutoring sessions.
• Organized–maintain accurate records.
• Skilled user of Microsoft Office products—Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Ability to coordinating activities across multiple sites; organize and prioritize work.
• Work independently and as a team member.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community partners, parents, students and the public in a very diverse community.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously; respond calmly and positively with students, parents and staff; adapt to changing work demands in a flexible manner.

• Person must have a driver’s license and provide his/her own transportation. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
• Washington State Patrol background check required including fingerprinting.
