Team Read recruiting is in full-swing this fall in Seattle and Highline school districts.  Team Read will be hiring more than 350 teens to work as one-on-one reading coaches.  We are excited to put our teens to work at nearby schools, libraries and community partner sites!

This year in Seattle, Team Read is opening a new site at John Muir Elementary, very close to Franklin High School.  We will employ 30 teens at the school on Mondays and Wednesdays, in addition to our existing hiring around the city.  Many alumni tutors returned to Team Read this fall to work as recruiters, distributing applications and speaking about Team Read at school assemblies.

In Highline, Team Read is working with the College and Career Access Specialists at Mount Rainier and Evergreen high school to talk with students in the cafeteria during lunch at both schools and get announcements out in advisories.

Team Read recruits teens at back-to-school events, orientations, and in classroom presentations.  We also station ourselves near the cafeterias at lunchtime to promote the program and hand out applications.

In addition to hiring high school students, Team Read is also enlisting 8th grade volunteers to work in the program.  Seattle 8th graders and students in Seattle and at Cascade Middle School in Highline can earn volunteer hours and valuable work experience as “Reading Mentors” with Team Read.
